Stella Fay (Rounds) Windsor passed from this earth on November 5, 2017. She made her decision to spend eternity in heaven by choosing Jesus many years ago. She was born in Tonasket, Washington in her Auntie Fay's home on April 19, 1937. She was the youngest of five children born to Frank and Sue (Carter) Rounds. They lived in Tonasket for a time and then moved to a small ranch near the Wauconda Hall. Her dad had a saw mill located there.
When Stella was 6 years old they purchased a ranch and moved the saw mill to one mile east of the Wauconda Summit. Stella attended schools at Wauconda, Republic, and Tonasket, where she was the Tonasket Rodeo Princess. Stella graduated in 1955.
Stella worked at the Tonasket Hospital for several years. After moving to Curlew she married her childhood sweetheart, Ed Windsor, a man she had loved since she was 11 when he was dating her older sister. Their marriage was richly blessed for nearly 50 years. She was employed by Bill and Mae Helphrey as bookkeeper for the mill they owned, Timber Processors, and the Curlew Store. She also worked for the Curlew School District in the office for a number of years. Ed and Stella purchased a part of the McClain Ranch and moved to Toroda Creek, where they raised their family including several foster children, cattle and horses. Stella loved animals so very much and had a special rapport with them. They all had names and came when they were called. When visitors stopped by, she always had something to serve them: coffee, fudge, pie, cinnamon rolls - you never left hungry even if you weren't hungry when you arrived.
Stella was a volunteer for many things. Probably the one she enjoyed the most was working in the office for the 4-Hers for over 34 years at the Ferry County Fair. She also worked in the exhibit barn for a few years and judged many of the entries. She was elected and served nearly three, six-year terms on the Board of Commissioners for the Ferry County Memorial Hospital. Stella was an avid seamstress, and made most all of her children's and husband's clothes. Her husband wore western clothes and he never had a store bought shirt. Stella took after her mother and was a very good cook, and could make wonderful bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. She baked and decorated delicious and beautiful cakes for all occasions. She was quite an artist and did many paintings after she was 53 years old. For those she called friend, she made a baby quilt for each child they had. Stella always was thinking of others and ways to help her neighbors and friends. Stella was a member of the Wauconda Community Church since childhood, and was secretary/treasurer for 13 years. She served as secretary/treasurer for the Curlew Civic Club for five years, was president of the Curlew Education Association for three years, and started and carried on the annual dinner and day for the Kinross/Buckhorn Mining Corporation at the Eagle Cliff Grange. Ed and she were Grand Marshalls of the Prospectors Celebration in Republic in 1996. She volunteered at many events in the Curlew and Republic area. She liked and could see something good in most everyone she came in contact with.
Those preceding her in death were her parents, two sons Tommy and Andy, foster son Terry Gerken, great granddaughter Kaylah Windsor, her loving and devoted husband Ed, and sisters, Louise Gerken, Elaine Anderson, and Edna Schertenlieb.
Survivors are her daughter Jill (Rod) Lindsey, grandson Mick (Shannon) and great grandchildren Krystianna, Alec, and Sonya; granddaughter Jessica, and great grandchildren Donovan, Aliyah, and Kamryn; granddaughter Jill (Jesse) Eich and great grandchildren Johnny and Jordynn; grandson Christopher (Athena) and great grandchildren Chase and Adria; Andy's son Drew (Kate) Windsor, great granddaughter Brelyn, and a grandson Del in Colorado; son Paul (Becky), grandchildren Ryan and Elizabeth; son Preston Windsor; granddaughter Brandi Gerken, great grandson Swade (Samantha) and great, great granddaughter Hazel; granddaughter Jaci (Pat) Edal, great granddaughter Lexi, brother Sonny (Kathy) Rounds, several special nieces and nephews and many wonderful and dear friends.
