Obituary

Ruth Helen Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 30, 2025, after spending a warm and laughter-filled holiday surrounded by her family. Ruth was born on January 7, 1935, in Republic, Washington, to Edna and Carl Alm, and from the very beginning she carried a spirit of generosity, quick wit, and deep care for the people around her.

Ruth's working life began as a telephone operator, and she later joined the Public Utility District as a clerk. After marrying Carl Anderson on June 9th, 1957, the two built a life rooted in family, community, and hard work. Together they welcomed three children—Craig, Carla, and Julie—who were the center of Ruth's world. Once her children reached school age, Ruth began working at Anderson's Grocery, where she kept the books, worked as a checker, and became known for her lively sense of humor. Many remembered her as a prankster of the store, always ready with a clever remark or a well-timed joke.

Even after retiring from the grocery store, Ruth never truly slowed down. She and Carl played a key role in the lives of all their grandchildren—traveling to countless sports games, dance recitals, theater performances, and any event where they could cheer from the sidelines. They spoiled each grandchild and great grandchild in the best way and delighted in providing a meal, sweet treat, outing or childcare whenever they got the chance. Ruth's love for her family was constant, steady, and absolutely unconditional.

Ruth was an exceptional seamstress who sewed nearly all of her children's clothing when they were young and continued to mend and tailor items for family members throughout her life. Her garden was another source of joy—large, abundant, and carefully tended each year. She loved making creamed vegetables with her harvest. In the kitchen she could prepare a meal that fed not just her family, but whatever friends, neighbors, or wandering kids happened to be nearby. She was known as the neighborhood mom, welcoming children into her home with patience, warmth, and a plate of something delicious.

Ruth was devoted to her church and community. She served as treasurer at First Presbyterian Church of Republic and as treasurer of the Ladies Aid group, generously giving her time, talents, and resources to those around her. Ruth also nurtured several close friendships throughout her life and will be missed by many dear friends even beyond the place she called home.

Life brought Ruth profound loss with the passing of her husband Carl and two of her children, Craig and Carla. Through it all, she carried herself with grace and resilience. In her later years, she received devoted and loving care from her daughter Julie, along with the support of Mary Jo, Jim, and the staff at MJ's Adult Family Home. Their care allowed Ruth to spend her final years in comfort, dignity, and surrounded by deep love.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl Anderson; her brother, Roy Alm; and her children, Craig Anderson and Carla Walton. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Marty) Padilla; her daughter-in-law Sam Jordan; son-in-law Clifford Walton; her grandchildren, Natalie (Adam) Prevatte, Bethany Walton, Leah Walton, Jordan (Trista) Padilla, and Madison (Hannah) Padilla; and her great-grandchildren, Cole Prevatte, Piper Prevatte, Brayden Padilla, and Emma Gorman.

A memorial service is planned for April 4th at the First Presbyterian Church in Republic, Washington. Those who wish to honor Ruth's memory may make donations to the Republic Cemetery Association or the Republic Presbyterian Church.

Ruth leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and boundless love—a legacy felt deeply by everyone lucky enough to know her. She will be missed more than words can say.
