Rick was born in Tonasket to Stanton J. & Helen (Hilderbrand) Schertenleib. He lived his whole life in Republic. He married Joyce Thompson in July 1982. He retired from Ferry County Public Works after 33 years of taking care of his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, side by side rides, camping, going to the cabin, taking drives, and meeting for coffee with the boys at Pine Grove.

Rick is survived by his wife Joyce, mother Helen, brothers Norm (Dorothy) and Dave (Gayle) as well as numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 12:30 PM at the Republic Elementary School.
