Obituary

Phyllis Jean Baump, daughter of Bruno and Wilna Mallgren passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019, in Marysville, WA surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on September 15th, 1928 in Grand Forks British Columbia. After birth she returned to the family homestead based at the foot of Franson Peak Mountain in Curlew. Her grandparents had homesteaded there after immigrating from Sweden. She spent her childhood there surrounded by the love of her parents, her two brothers, extended family and her precious animals. After graduating from Curlew high school, she went on to business school in Spokane WA where she met her husband of almost fifty years, Ronald Odtis Baump. They returned to their 160-acre ranch in Malo WA, where they raised their seven children.

As the matriarch of our family, our mom taught her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the true meaning of love, kindness, respect and above all how to be a good neighbor. Everyone was always welcome in our humble home and treated to a cup of coffee and fresh baked treats. She especially loved children and took every opportunity to share and teach her skills and wisdom. After our father's near -death logging accident in the early 1960's, she had to take on the role of provider, caregiver, breadwinner and chief farm hand, all the while teaching her children strength, hard work and character. After Ron's health improved, they moved to a five -acre farm in Bothell WA. Both of them became employed by the University of Washington, Phyllis in the Medical Records Department, from which she retired at age 65.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Ronald; her teenage brother, Dickie; her oldest child Ronald Gene; and infant daughter Marjorie Lee.

She will be greatly missed by her surviving children and brother: Sharon Sattler, Republic, WA; Donna Baump, Marysville WA; Colleen Korstad, Eugene OR; Nancy Sjoquist, Kenmore WA; Doug Baump, Elk WA; Janet Jordan, Mukilteo WA; Harold Mallgren, Curlew WA and the beloved Malo Ranch and her fifteen grandchildren and twenty -three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on February 9th at the Curlew Civic Hall starting at 11 a.m. Celebration of Life and potluck luncheon to follow after interment at the Curlew Cemetery.
