Obituary

Pat was born in White Swan, Washington, on September 14, 1941, the first of five children to Ralph and Marian Young. Growing up on farms and orchards shaped her early life-long days, steady hands, and a work ethic that stayed with her for all her years. When the Young family later moved to Manson, Washington, Pat entered high school and met the love of her life, Max Hand. The two married in 1958, beginning a partnership that would span decades, adventures, and a family they cherished.

Pat and Max made their home in the Snoqualmie Valley, where they raised their four children. In 1978, the family moved to Oroville, Washington, and poured their energy into several family businesses-Max's Chevron, Max's Service Center, and the State Liquor Store. Pat's warmth and easy conversation made her a familiar and beloved face to many in the community.

Pat had a gift for creating beauty wherever she went. She was an exceptional cook, a devoted gardener, and an artist in countless quiet ways. Her home bloomed with flowers of every color, each one tended with the same care she gave to the people she loved. Her legendary vegetable garden - especially her green beans earned her the affectionate title of "The Green Bean Queen."

She was also a joyful presence in community events. Many will remember seeing her and Max cruising in their '59 Impala during the May Day parade, or shining proudly at car shows, especially the "Lost in the Fifties" celebration in Sandpoint.

Though small in stature, Pat had a heart that seemed to hold the whole world. The outpouring of love following her passing reflects the countless lives she touched with her kindness, humor, and generosity. Her family is deeply grateful for every message, meal, memory, and gesture of support during this difficult time.

Pat is survived by her husband, Max; her four children-Dan (Tammi), Cathy (Tim), Kevin (Mercedes), and Colleen (Troy); her seven grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren. Each one carries her love forward.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hughes Barn, 42 Westlake Road, Oroville, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the American Cancer Society - honoring Pat's strength as a cancer survivor- or to a charitable organization of your choice.
