Nancy Lou
Van Wyk (Babb)
January 4, 1939 – November 20, 2023
Nancy was born in Detroit, Michigan to Chester and Annabelle Babb. Nancy was the third of eight
children including: Junie Angel (Sam), Larry, Joe (Mickey), Peggy Haner (James), Danny, Mike, and Judy.
When Nancy was 4 years old the family moved back to Henderson, Kentucky to the farm. Nancy got
her first guitar when she was 9 years old and wrote her first song "That's the Way it's Gotta Be" when
she was 18. She went on to write over 500 songs. When she was 28, one song she wrote was recorded
by the Kendall's called "The Hills of Kentucky". Nancy said the highlight of her life was singing with her
brother Joe on the radio in Evansville, Indiana when they were teenagers, and when she was 17 years
old, Elvis kissed her hand. When she was 19 Nancy met her husband of 64 years, Mike Van Wyk in
Kentucky. They moved to Sultan, Washington where they started their family.
At the age of 31 Nancy became one of Jehovah's Witnesses, sharing her beliefs with pretty much
anyone who would listen. She said she finally found what she was looking for.
Wherever Nancy lived, she made her house a home. She loved having big get-together's where
everyone was invited, playing her guitar, singing her songs and others', everyone joining in. She will
always be fondly remembered for "The Tulip Song" she wrote for all the kids to sing and play along. She
loved horses and her many animals throughout the years.
Nancy will be remembered for her music, words of wisdom, her pecan pie, biscuits and gravy,
cornbread, her beautiful yard with gorgeous flowers, her sense of humor, her beautiful face and smile. She helped a lot of people.
Nancy was a deep thinker, a creative, fun, funny, devoted wife, mom, mother-in-law, sister, grandma
and friend. She had many close friends in the Republic Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses where she
attended for many years who will dearly miss her.
She will be deeply missed by her six children, Lisa, Dana, Lance (Josie), Selena, Jonny (Josephine) and
Jake, where she had a special connection with each one; special memories of her will remain in their hearts until they see her again. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, grandchildren Vinnie, Justilynn, Levi, Sierra, Shane and her great grandchildren.
One of Nancy's last words were "Don't be too sad because I'm going to the best rest home ever and
when I wake up I'll be happy healthy and YOUNG!!! LOL!
