Obituary

Marianne was born to Ed M. and Helen Moody Walter. Marianne joined three sisters and welcomed five more. Their life was pretty typical of the 1930s other than growing up with eight sisters. The sisters formed a bond there that continues today.

Marianne met and later married Ralph (Rowdy) Bremner in 1952. Marianne and Rowdy had four daughters, Jane, Carla, Beth and Julie. During their married years, their time was spent with family, both sides and dear friends.

Rowdy's parents and siblings all lived in Republic. Many weekend days were spent out on the Bremner ranch tending to chores—branding and butchering. Mom had a whole new family to enjoy time, laughter, food and raising kids. Marianne had a tight bond with dad's siblings and spouses that continued all through their lives. Marianne's parents lived in Republic their entire lives, so for the nine daughters to get together happened often. There was huckleberrying, cherry season (Aunt Sheila brought a LOT of cherries), many summer days and weekends out at Black's Beach with the whole lot of us, and of course, hunting season. Many of mom's sisters and their spouses came for the big hunt. Good times, good laughter and delicious food were had by all. And there were the hunting stories.  Mom felt fortunate her sister Judy and family lived In Republic and enjoyed calls or visits nearly every day.

Mom had a wealth of friends—sisters, sisters-in-law, girls she grew up with, women from the church and a lot of newcomers to town. She enjoyed every moment with them, from coffee in the morning with her friends, to three-hour talks with Alice Burbank in the car after bowling. She had her golfing friends, her stitching friends, Altar Society friends, Election and Cemetery Boards, Jane Cody Democrat Women's Club friends, library friends, 4H and judging at the fair, friends she played cards with as well as those she became friends with from working at the hospital and others.  She mentioned these women often and how fortunate she was to know them.

Mom loved being a grandma, and her grandchildren received the rewards of that love. She played with them, spoiled them some, taught them cooking and stitching, cards and games, read to them, laughed with them, watched them grow throughout school endeavors, and enjoyed them immensely as adults. All of her grandchildren have very special memories of Gramma, Gram.

Mom liked to have fun—and fun she had. She had an enormous sense of humor, loved playing games. She also spent nights out with dad and the friends at the Fireman's Ball and barn dances (they did like to dance). After retirement they traveled with sisters, and sisters and spouses.

Mom did the right thing—she was never above helping anybody, and if she couldn't physically help them, she prayed for them. Mom's Rosary was never far from her reach.

As daughters we hope we reflect some of the gifts our mom bestowed—she is and will forever be missed.

Marianne is survived by her daughters, Jane Bremner (David) Risley, grandson Ken Windsor, and great grandchildren Lauryn, Haley and Alex; Carla Bremner; Beth Bremner Brown (Ken), granddaughter Jennifer and grandson Kris; Julie Lohman (Gerry), grandchildren Kayla (John) Torres, Will and Emilee; sisters Betty Bishop, Jean Walter, Kate Richards and Susan Hessler and sister-in-law Esther Bremner; as well as brothers-in-law Fred Bremner and John Stabenfeldt; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rowdy; grandson Jacob Windsor; sisters Margaret and husband Joe Baker, Sheila and husband Bill Diede, sister Caroline Schoeff, sister Judy Stabenfeldt, and brothers-in-law Alvie Bishop and Bernie Richards; in laws Jessie and Alex Bremner; brothers and sisters-in-law Helen and Clyde Fritts, Lillian and John Montague; and brother-in-law Art Bremner.

Marianne's daughters truly appreciate the outstanding, thorough and compassionate care provided by Ferry County Memorial Hospital professionals while she resided there.  We cannot properly express the gratitude we feel for their care of mom and the consideration shown to the family during this difficult time.

Bergh's Funeral Home has taken care of our family's final arrangements and we were comforted to see Gary Bergh at the graveside. The cemetery staff and Father Ken St. Hilaire made a sad November day easier.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family hopes to have a celebration of life in the summer of 2021.
