Louise Naomi
Haaland
July 28, 1940 – April 12, 2026
Louise Naomi Haaland, aged 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 12, 2026, at her home in Tonasket, Washington. Born on July 28, 1940, in Okanogan, Washington, to Warren and Eulah Ayers, Louise was the second of seven children. She spent her childhood on the family's farm on Salmon Creek before marrying David Haaland in 1956 and moving to Tonasket, where they raised three children of their own.
Louise brought her love of farm life with her into adulthood. She was known for her large, abundant garden, her endlessly-stocked canning pantry, and her terrible ability to name farm animals (there were countless calves named Blackie and Brownie over the years). But what she may have lacked in imagination, she more than made up for in skill in the kitchen. She was a renowned cook and baker who made, quite possibly, the best molasses crinkles (aka "Grandma Cookies") known to man.
Louise's love of cooking went hand in hand with her love of family and church. She made a point of remembering everyone's favorite food and always had it ready and waiting. A Cool Whip container with a handwritten note from Louise was something to treasure (and hide) if you were lucky enough to receive one.
A devout Christian, Louise was beloved within her church community, where she made lifelong friends. She was a star of the potluck and never missed a chance to participate in church events. She was a member of the Living Church of God.
More than anything, Louise was the cornerstone of her family. Dave-and-Louise were an inseparable pair for almost 70 years, taking care of and loving each other unwaveringly through sickness and health. As wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—she loved unconditionally and was cherished in return.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Michael and Laverne Ayers; her sister, Lorene Stout; and her grandson, Jonathan David Shane Burke. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy Stout and Brenda Behrent; her brother, Terry Ayers; her devoted husband, David Haaland; her three children, Debbie Burke, Crystal Haaland, and Michael Haaland; six grandchildren, Erin Burke, Shannon Stringer, Meagan Price, Shaana Haaland, Kathryn Burke, and Carolyn Schreckengast; and 13 great-grandchildren. The lives she touched are too numerous to count.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 24th at the Tonasket Cemetery, with food and fellowship to follow at the Tonasket Senior's Center, 22 East 5th Street, Tonasket, WA.
