JW Fox, known by most as Jay or Cowboy. 72 of Tonasket passed away August 31, 2026 in his home of 36 years after a short and painful battle with prostate cancer. JW was born February 22, 1954 at Omak Memorial Hospital to James Fox and Barbara Stothers (Black). He graduated from Central Valley high school in 1973. He lived a full life and was no stranger to hard work from truck driving to mechanics to farming. He made his living working for the greats like Spokane Lumber, John Figenshow, and Roger Sawyer. Even though his family moved around a lot while he was growing up, the Okanogan County has always been his home. Jay was an avid outdoorsman, horseman, self-taught gunsmith, and all-around cowboy. He was the definition of a blue-collar country boy. He was a father, friend and teacher. He was always one to lend a helping hand, protesting the entire time.
He is proceeded in death by both his parents, his brother Mark Fox, his grandson Jacob Reese, and granddaughter Payten Bennett.
He is survived by his children Jeanette Pyper (Fox), Jason Fox (Flora Rogers), Travis (Ciara) Fox, Ashley (Jeremy) Gibson. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandson; his sisters Connie Epperly, Linda Fox and brothers David and Lee Fox. He was known as dad and Papa JW to so many others he had a hand in raising.
The family wishes to ask for the consideration of donating to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Association or St Judes Children's Research Hospital.
A memorial service will be held October 24, 2026 at 1pm at the Tonasket Eagles.
