Judy Stabenfeldt age 73 of Republic passed away peacefully at her home Sunday evening April 3, 2016 with her husband and sister, Susy, at her side after a struggle with ALS better known as "Lou Gehrig" disease. She was born September 27, 1942, the youngest of nine girls born to Ed and Helen Walter in Republic. Judy graduated from Republic High School in 1960. She went to and graduated from Mary Stone Beauty School in Seattle and after working there for a while she returned to Republic and worked with Romanda Burchett as a Beautician. On October 1, 1966 she married John Stabenfeldt. She also worked at the Ferry County Memorial Hospital. She and John lived in Cassel's Trailer Court for one year and then moved to the farm on West Curlew Lake Road in the fall of 1967. In 1986, they built a new home close by and have live there ever since. She and her husband raced thorobred horses for 45 years in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Canada. They met many fine people, who became great friends. Judy was very active in her church and alter society, being President more than once. She was a Ferry County Fair Board member for over twenty years and took great pride in taking care of the flowers and hanging baskets before and during the fair. She was also in charge of the annual lunch for the judges and workers during fair week. Judy headed up the Friday night racehorse barbeque and kept, washed and passed out the race blanket numbers on race day. She loved to go to barn dances, including the Wauconda Sock Hop. She attended many High School athletic games with her husband both home and away, including State B. She was a great homemaker and cook and everyone liked to go to Aunt Judy's for dinner. She really had a good bond with her dog "Bell". Judy had a great sense of humor and when she had something to say, she didn't hold back.
Judy is survived by her husband John at home, son and daughter in law Kevin and Tricia, grandchildren Taylor and Jake all of Enumclaw, WA, She loved those grandkids. She is also survived by five sisters Betty Bishop of Spokane, Marianne Bremner of Republic, Jean Walter of Seattle, Kate Richards of Kirkland and Susy Hessler of Renton, twenty three nephews and nieces, plus many great nephews and nieces and many great friends.
She was preceded in death by three sisters Margie Baker, Sheila Diede and Caroline Schoeff.
Rosary will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 7:00 PM and Mass will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2106 10:00 AM at the Republic Catholic Church with Father Richard Semple, presiding.
