Joyce Elaine Oberg, age 93 of Tonasket, WA died on July 24, 2026 at Apple Springs Assisted Living in Omak, WA.

Joyce was born on July 11, 1933 to her parents, Orvil and Vada Thygesen. As a young girl, Joyce’s family moved from Chewelah to Bainbridge Island. One of her fondest childhood memories was swimming in the Puget Sound. Later her family moved to Seattle, where she went to Garfield High School. In high school she attended Young Life. She also went to a Billy Graham Crusade in Seattle, that began her life as a Christian. Later, Joyce became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Joyce met Norman Oberg after a friend’s wedding, at a dance in Ellisforde. They were married on June 24, 1956. They had two girls, Tina and June, along with many “summer boys”.

Joyce enjoyed the ranch life style. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, decorating cakes, and making fun Christmas gifts for her grandchildren.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Oberg, parents, Orvil and Vada Thygesen, brother Ted Thygesen and sister Gladine Weehunt.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Tina M. Timmerman (Mark) and June N. Kershner (Tom), grandchildren, April Spackman (Chris), Tim Kershner (Anne Marie), Ben Kershner (Brooke), Brian Timmerman (Anna), Sean Timmerman (Heather), Michelle Scott (Zach) and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Havillah, WA on August 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Brian Bowes. Interment at the Havillah Cemetery will follow the service.
