Obituary

John Thomas Snyman died peacefully on December 15, 2025 in Spokane, Washington after a long battle with Dementia.  He was born on January 6, 1944 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Thomas and Pricilla Snyman, and spent his childhood in New Mexico before his family relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he attended area schools . After graduating high school, John married Bonnalea Sutton in 1963, and their son Stephen James was born later that year. While stationed in Oregon with the Coast Guard, John was discharged and returned to Denver. Their daughter, Traci Lynn, arrived in 1966.  Eventually, John and Bonni went their separate ways and divorced. John met Pamela Sheel, they married, and together they relocated to Oroville, Washington in the late 1970s. They adjusted to small-town life, established businesses including The Book Tree and Bus Depot, as well as Jon's Machine shop later renamed, Two Rivers Machine Shop. In 1979, they welcomed their son, Nathan John.
A skilled machinist and welder, John provided valuable services to area orchardists, fruit warehouses, the city, schools, irrigation district, organizations, and community members throughout Oroville and neighboring areas. He was also recognized for his craftsmanship as a silversmith, his brand Skybird Silver. He hand-crafted jewelry and décor pieces using materials like silver, brass, copper ivory, and petrified wood with gemstones and turquoise. Blacksmithing was a talent he added later in life, and he produced many pieces of wrought iron beauty.
A passionate fisherman, John spent countless hours on the lakes in the area, especially at favorites Wannacut, Beaver, and Beth Lakes. He enjoyed relaxing with friends at the Old Pastime Tavern with a cold drink or two. John worked hard, played hard, and lived life on his own terms, regardless of others approval. He had a good heart, helped and gave to others. He was a friend to many. He wasn't perfect by any means, as none of us are. He will be missed. Rest in peace Johnny.
John was preceded in death by his parents Tommy and Pricilla, stepfathers Clarence Miller and John Perryman, brother Michael, wives Pamela and Bonni, and son Nathan.
He is survived by daughter Traci Neal with SIL Jon, son Stephen Snyman DIL Kim; grandchildren Chelsea, Zachary, Stephen C., and Arison; and great-grandchildren Raegan, Logan, Adaline, Daxton, and Ariyah.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will take place at 11:30 am on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Oroville Grange Hall, followed by a light luncheon.
