Jean
Godwin
December 4, 2018
Mildred Jean Godwin, 75, of Tonasket, WA went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 4, 2018. Jean was born in Amarillo, TX on September 22, 1943 to Robert Carl Dane and Mildred (Shelby) Dane. Her earliest years were spent as the eldest of three daughters in a military family. They returned to Texas when her father was called to ministry. At the age of eight, Jean first met the love of her life, Calvin Huey Godwin. On August 19, 1961, she married that love in Bonita, TX. In 1966, with little to their names and nothing more than a dream, Calvin and Jean left Texas and set off on a journey to become orchardists in Washington State. Tonasket, WA, became the home where, Jean and Calvin raised their three children: Sammy, Robbie and Allen. Throughout life, Jean was known for her incredible smile and a love that shone from the inside out. She loved people, and they loved her in return. Jean was a very active member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Okanogan, WA, where she faithfully served as Secretary and Treasurer. Jean's love of the Lord was evident to anyone who knew her as was her love for her family and friends. Never judging, Jean was patient and kind, an example of Christ's love. She spent many years working "in town" at everything from dental assisting to writing grants to medical billing, making new friends at every turn. Jean loved to travel and often spoke about the great times she had visiting her family in Texas. When Jean became a grandmother, her grandchildren lovingly nicknamed her "Mammy". Mammy was the "rock" of the Godwin family in Tonasket, providing love, support, and world-famous fried chicken to all her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Calvin Huey Godwin, son Sammy (Gwynne) and their children Courtney, Etta and Lukes; daughter Robbie Monroe (James) and their children and grand-children Billy (Amber N), Kaydence; Tyler (Karen), Tylee and Tucker; Cayla Sellers (Austin), Harvey and Huey Sellers; Amber Vance (Casey), Cayden; and son Allen Godwin (Stephanie), Bryce, Hunter, Grace, Megan, John and Allen Quinn Godwin. Jean is also survived by her siblings Lou, Sharon, Jeff and Monica and is loved by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Services will be held at the Tonasket Free Methodist Church on Saturday December 8th at 12 pm. The service will be officiated by her pastor, James Craddock. She will be laid to rest in Tonasket Cemetery.
