Jack Stevens' Obituary
Jack W. Stevens age 88 of Tonasket passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Liberty Lake, Washington. He was born September 10, 1928 in Wenatchee to parents Wendell and Verna Stevens. He grew up in Tonasket where he attended high school and was active in basketball and football.
He graduated from Tonasket High School in 1946.
In December of 1950 Jack entered the US Army where he served in the Korean War. He received The Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service medal. Jack served with the 371st infantry and was honorably discharged in December of 1952.
Jack married Hazel Howe in Republic WA on June 20, 1953. Together they made their family home in Tonasket and raised their family along with several other children, who also became their family. Jack provided stability, support and guidance for his children with a strong teaching of work ethic as well as play.
Jack enjoyed boating, water skiing, fishing and hunting with his children and friends. He drove many miles to and from multiple sporting events and school activities with his children.
In his later years he especially enjoyed fishing on Palmer Lake with his lifelong friends Dean and Lillian Stansbury.
Jack worked as a self-employed electrician for years before becoming an orchardist (Apple Jack) and expanding the family orchard. His crops included apples, peaches, pears and other fruit.
Jack enjoyed volunteering with the Tonasket Fire Department.
In February of 2013 Jack moved to Liberty Lake where he resided at Guardian Angels assisted living home. He enjoyed many outings with family and new friends that he made while there.
Jack is survived by Three sons: Bob Stevens of Tonasket, Tom Stevens of
Tonasket, and Tracey Stevens of Tonasket; and his two daughters Tammy
Stevens of Tonasket and Debbie Panther of Liberty Lake. Other children
include Wendell Stevens of Seattle, Vernie McDaniel of Spokane, Richie
Stevens of Spokane and Wayne Olmstead of Spokane, numerous foster
children, seventeen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Hazel and two brothers Bill and Bob Stevens.
Military Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 11:00 AM at the Tonasket Cemetery with a memorial service immediately following at the Tonasket Senior Center. Memorials may be made to the Tonasket Senior Center, PO Box 86, Tonasket, WA 98855.
