Jack E. Lindsey passed away at age 85 at the Ferry County Hospital May 14, 2017. He was born on his parent's Malo ranch on Feb 7th, 1932 to Hugh and Anna Lindsey. He attended Curlew High School graduating in 1950. Moving to Republic he worked at the Knob Hill mine. Jack leased the Union Oil gas station from Pauline Thompson at age 19. After a 2 yr. service in the army he returned to the Central Service station which he then owned and operated until he sold to Wayne and Sue Egner in 1994. In 1956 Jack married Terri Brown of Curlew. They made their home in Republic and started their family. Later they purchased property a mile east of town where Jack enjoyed life very much raising cattle, hay and three boys. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially the "big cattle drives" held by himself, friends and neighbors with his boys. There were sleighing parties with many kids and adults followed by chili at someone's house. In 1970 he bought his first race horse beginning a pastime which lasted 45 years running his horses in WA, ID, MT and BC. He has been a member of the fair board and active participant in the fair since in 4H at 10 years old. He was afternoon program chairman for many years taking over from C.A. Burbank. Jack was a member of Kiwanis, served on the TV board and was a volunteer fireman with a time as chief.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 yrs. June 9th, sons Michael (Brenda), Patrick (Catherine), Steven (Michelle), granddaughters Jana and Jennifer, grandson Brian, two great granddaughters, his brother Bill of Colville, also nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marge, brother Bob, and grandson Nicholas.
Services will be held in the Republic elementary school gym at 11:00 on June 17th. There will be a pot luck in the cafeteria after the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the organization of choice.
