Obituary

Edward Winslow, of Tonasket, died Tuesday morning, August 30th, at the age of 97.    He was born November 9, 1913, to James and Josephine Winslow of Wenatchee.  He briefly attended schools in Tonasket and Oroville, and graduated from Wenatchee High School.  He attended Washington State (College) University.
He met Opal Rock in Wenatchee while they were both working in the apple industry and they were later married in Waterville, on March 6th, 1936.  They were married for 59 years until she preceded him in death in 1995.  They had two daughters, Carol Josephine Pariseau of Kirkland, and Barbara Jean Croydon of Camano Island.
They lived in Olympia while he worked for the State of Washington, and then later returned to Tonasket where he was an apple orchardist for over 50 years.  During this time, he became active in the community as a member of the United Growers Warehouse, a charter member of the Kiwanis, served on the Tonasket School District Board of Directors, and was elected to the office of Okanogan County Commissioner.  During his commissioner years, he was proud of his association with Congressman Tom Foley as they worked together to get an infusion of Federal funds for the county.  He was an active member of the Democratic Party.
In his later years, Ed was active in the Senior Center and the Tonasket Community Church.  Ethel Cook became his trusted friend and companion.
In addition to his two daughters, Ed is survived by five grandchildren; Julie Pariseau of Kirkland, Mike Pariseau of Seattle, Mark (Tina) Pariseau of Seattle, Michelle (Bruce) Hanna of Mount Vernon, Lori (Tim) Bohr of Spokane, and 9 great-grandchildren.  Also, numerous nieces and nephews, which includes locally Butch (Donna) Winslow of Tonasket.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Opal; his sister Agnes; his brothers James, Jack, Ernest, and Robert; nephew Bill Jacobs; and niece Betty Silverthorn.
A memorial service will be held at the Tonasket Community Church on September 3rd, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Leon Alden officiating.  Refreshments will follow in the fellowship hall.  Memorials may be made to the Tonasket Senior Center or the Tonasket Community Church.
