Obituary

Ed Frank Windsor was born May 25, 1930 and died on May 6, 2013 at his home in the arms of his devoted and loving wife Stella after a very lengthy disease called Lewy Body/Parkinson Syndrome.  Ed was born in Ellensburg , Washington to Frank and Hazel (Schiller) Windsor, the fifth child and first boy of the family.  The family moved to Republic when Ed was a young lad.

Ed did not like school and dropped out his sophomore year.  He then began working for the Lesamiz Herford Cattle/Sheep Ranch in the Tonasket area. Ed loved his life on the back of a horse, be it trained or just starting.  He made many really good saddle horses from the many colts he started and trained.

Ed's family had a hard working and meager life as he was growing up.  None the less they were a close knit family.

Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army when he was 18.  He served 2 years in Korea in the infantry. When he came home he lived in Curlew, and worked for the state highway department, Pidge's sawmill, the forest service and was foreman on the then large Grimsley Ranch.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Stella Rounds (who he had asked to marry him when she was only 13).  It took her a few years to say yes.  They lived and raised their family and many foster children throughout the near 50 years they were blessed to be together.  They bought a part of the McClain ranch on Toroda Creek and settled down to raising their family, cattle and horses.  He had a hard working life but oh so rewarding.

Ed got a job at The Curlew Conservation Center and worked there for 27 years.  He then retired and was elected to County Commissioner , where he served 2 terms and 3 and ½ years.  He was extremely active in the community.  He was a member for 15 years, then president of the Ferry County Fair Board for 8 years, then a break and then president for 2 years.  Ed was president of The Ferry County Stock Horse Association for a number of years, president of The Curlew Civic Club for 5 years, Eagle Cliff Grange member 50 + years and master for 5 years.  He was a member of the Wauconda Community Church , Cattleman's Association, State Weed Board, The TriCounty Health Board and Ferry County Conservation Service, and member of The American Legion.

His hearty good nature was a big part of him.  He could tell a story at any time and never repeat the same one.  His jokes were unending and brought joy to many.  If you knew Ed, you were blessed, as he blessed so many friends.  He left a legacy of love for his family.
