Dorothy Lena Walter

Dorothy L. Walter, of Tonasket, WA died Monday, December 20, 2021 at the age of 96. Dorothy was born in Pine Creek, WA on September 6, 1925 to Jacob and Christina Zachman, Austrian immigrants. Dorothy attended Lower Pine Creek and Riverside schools. She continued her education at Sacred Heart School of Nursing and received her degree as an RN. She began working at St. Martin's Hospital in 1946. She was an excellent nurse, made many lifelong friends and was a mentor to many younger nurses. Her memory was amazing up until the time she passed.

Dorothy married Melvin (Stub) Walter on June 7, 1947 and raised 5 children. Dorothy's mother died when she was 6 years old and she was raised by her father and sister, Martha Atchison. When she was 12 , Martha married and she had to take over Martha's duties to care for her father and brothers. As a child she loved horseback riding, reading, fishing, and visiting with relatives. As an adult Dorothy enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, going to the Casino and spending time with family. One of her favorite trips was with her sister Martha. They traveled to Alaska to fish and spend time with her nephew Don and his wife Pat.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Stub, her parents, her brothers; Jack, Joe, Mike, Wally, Art, and Alfred, sisters; Elsie White and Martha Atchison; an infant daughter, grandsons; Chris Michels, Jake Walter, great-grandson Logan Walter, son-in-law Bill Pilkinton. She is survived by her daughters; Kathy (Bob) Michels, Mary (Lani) Schorzman, Pete Pilkinton; her sons John (Jayme) Walter and Jeff (Anna) Walter, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grands, and 1 great-great-grand. She was well loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022 , at the Tonasket Eagles, 213 S. Western Ave., Tonasket, with a luncheon to follow. Bergh Funeral Service & Crematory has been entrusted with caring for the family.
