Obituary

On November 21, 2024, Dealey Ann Leggett passed away peacefully with family members by her side. At her request, there will be no service. The essence of our Mom would not be about grieving her loss, but celebrating that she lived life on her terms. There was never a person more independent, strong, and passionate about enjoying and experiencing life.

Dealey Ann, the youngest of 3 daughters, was born June 2, 1931, to educators Dr. August and Dr. Hermione Dvorak. At a very young age, her spirit of adventure surfaced as she explored Seattle by bicycle with her best friend. She graduated high school at 16 and continued to forge her own path, attending college at Denver University. There she met and married her partner in crime, Carroll "Bud" Leggett. They discovered in each other a fellow adventurer, free spirit, and nature lover. They married in April 1952 and after traveling around the USA, settled in Okanogan County where they raised their growing brood of "Leggett Kids" who couldn't have asked for better parents!

Dealey Ann began teaching Kindergarten in 1969. By the time she retired, several generations of Tonasket school children called her their teacher and often their friend. She loved and remembered every child, with many keeping in touch with her long after they graduated high school. Never one to be tied to the past, and with the belief that learning new things kept you sharp, she embraced technology, including texting and internet shopping. An avid walker/hiker, the hills of Tonasket did not stop her and her dog Jazzi from their daily trips to town.

Dealey Ann is survived by her Children: Heidi (Marv) Antonie, Shane (Wendy) Leggett, Erin Leggett, Lindey (Sandy) Leggett, Cary (Kathy) Leggett, Michele (Chris) Gay, Mary (Jeff) Ritter, and 12 grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren who affectionately called her Gramma Jazzi.

Dealey Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Leggett, son, Cole Leggett, sisters, Audrey Snow and Hermione Rice, daughter-in-law Kelly Leggett, and her parents.

She was bright, loving, and generous, and her smile reached your heart. To say our mom will be missed is an understatement, but her spirit as our Fearless Leader will be with us always.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Tonasket Community Scholarship Fund, or your favorite charity benefiting animals or children.

Bergh Funeral Service & Crematory is in care of arrangements.
