David Richard
(Skip) Crandall
September 12, 1944 – February 25, 2023
Dave was born in Tacoma, WA on September 12, 1944, to Howard and Devina Crandall. He passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2023, outside of Tonasket, WA, after a 3 ½ year, courageous battle with cancer at the age of 78.
Dave grew up in numerous places across the United States, but his favorite places were the time he spent in Texas and Vermont. The Crandall family settled in Puyallup, WA where Dave graduated from Puyallup High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in August of 1963 and served until August of 1968. Dave was honorably discharged as an E5-Sergeant, Rifle Sharpshooter, and with campaign medals for his time spent in Vietnam.
After his service, Dave went to the University of Puget Sound where he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts, achieving Departmental Honors. He continued his education at Pacific Lutheran University where he received a Master of Arts in Social Sciences.
Dave taught sociology and philosophy classes at Centralia Community College, and he later went on to sell cars for 15 years. He was always a handyman and spent many years cutting and delivering firewood -- one of his life's joys was to be out in nature. However, Dave's true joy was the candy business, Dad's Confections, he and his wife had for 15 years. They traveled to various fairs and bazaars, and he always said how much he truly enjoyed being out with the people, making connections and selling candy.
Dave's interests included anything sci-fi; he loved aliens and spirits. He usually believed the crazy stories people would tell of their experiences and sightings of paranormal activity. He was an avid reader and learner, and he held a level of modest pride in being a lifelong pursuer of knowledge. Dave enjoyed listening to the Delta Blues, Vietnam era rock-n-roll, and oldies country. His most cherished moments were spent with his children and grandchildren. He was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Dave will have private, full military honors at the Washington State Veteran's Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA, June 22nd. There will be a public celebration of life on June 24, for those that knew and loved Dave to come remember and celebrate his life at the Crandall Acres.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Gwen (Devers) Crandall, sister Sylvia Clifford (Dutch), daughters Shauna Cramer (Kevin), Sheena Crothers (Jerry), son Jeffery Crandall (MaLou), grandsons Wesley Cramer, Calvin Cramer (Carrie), Jacob Crothers, and granddaughters Kayla Gowans, Marlene Crothers, Serenity Crothers, and Camille Crothers.
He was preceded in death by his father Howard Crandall, mother Devina (Duthie) Crandall, and brother Roland "Butch" Crandall.
