Obituary

On December 22, 2020 David Earl Allen walked through the gates of Heaven and was welcomed home. David passed peacefully at home with his wife of 50 years by his side.

David was born to Earl and Doris Allen of Salem, OR, in Tonasket, WA, on November 18, 1944. He was raised in Salem, OR, with visits to his dad Earl and grandparents Ellis and Virginia Allen in the Oroville and Chesaw areas. He met Ruthie Leslie in 1969 and they were married November 28, 1970 and had four children. He was a member of the American Legion and the Molson Grange. David was an avid reader and passed this love of books along to his children and grandkids. He also loved the outdoors- fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He loved to learn new skills and to pass them on to his kids and grandkids.

After school, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. where he completed four years of active duty which included boots on the ground overseas. David worked several different jobs before starting work at Gold Digger. He retired from driving truck in 2012. He then drove mail with Ruthie for several years while still working his farm and orchard.

David enjoyed Thanksgiving and his 50 th anniversary quietly at home surrounded by his wife, kids and grandkids. This of course included great food, cards and stories. There was not a story that David could not embellish or not make entertaining.

David has always been a hard worker, especially when it came to providing for his family. His favorite job titles on Earth included: Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend and his all-time favorite position, POPPA.

David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruthie. His children Earl (Kiki) Allen of Oroville, Roger (Rochelle) Allen of Oroville, Samantha (Tom) Cook of Bel Air, MD, Sonja (Jason) Fox of Oroville, and bonus child Colton (Sibrecht) Wright of Brooklyn, NY. Nine Grandchildren: Drake, Taralynn and Lance Fox, Odin and Tabitha Allen, Aspen and Erica Cook, Alexia Thomas and Michael Lewis, and great grandson Benjamin Thomas. Siblings: Vic Allen, Janet Allen, Laurie Andal, Kay Lock and multiple stepsiblings in Oregon. He was preceded in death by parents Earl and Laura Allen of Oroville, and Roy and Doris Lock of Salem, OR. Siblings: John Allen, Ellis (Tuffy) Allen, Deb and Rick Wright and Virginia Kathleen Allen.

David's gruff exterior hid the fact that he had the softest heart and that he was a worrier. He worried about his family and friends all the time. The gruffness translated "I love you" into "Do you need gas?" and "Did you check the oil?"

David, you left the gas tanks full and you taught us to check the oil. You can rest easy now.

The family would like to send a big thank you to Dr. DiCroce and her team for the excellent care that was given.

At David's request, there will be no services… now picture how he said it.
