Darrel Lee
Williams
May 3, 1957 – July 11, 2014
Darrel L. Williams, 57, of Oroville died July 11, 2014 at Palmer Lake. He was born May 3, 1957 to Jack and Betty Williams in Walsenburg, Colorado. Darrel was raised on the family ranch east of Walsenburg and went to school in Walsenburg, graduating in 1975. After graduation he continued with his love of cattle and horses, working on many ranches in the area, as well as the home place. In 1986, he had the opportunity to work on ranches in Australia for six months – he loved that adventure. Darrel cowboyed in California, Texas, Arizona, Mexico, and Wyoming as well. Then he started taking the tourists in and out of the Grand Canyon on mules. He was an expert packer and took the pack mules also. In May of 1992, Darrel joined the US Border Patrol and was stationed all across the southern border in Blythe, Yuma, Douglas and Alpine. He then transferred to the northern border at Oroville, Washington. He still did a lot of the patrolling on horseback. When the border patrol came to Colorado to buy wild mustangs that had been broken by inmates at the state prison, Darrel came to pick them out and take them back to Washington. Darrel had recently retired from the Border Patrol in 2012. He enjoyed spending time with his several friends, hunting and fishing and other recreational activities.
