Obituary

Chuck (Charlie Earl) Atchison, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Tonasket on September 15th, following a short illness. He was born in Tonasket on May 13, 1951, to Charlie and Martha (Zachman) Atchison, joining siblings Roberta and Don and later their sister, Carlene. Raised in Toroda Creek and Tonasket, Chuck was deeply proud of his family's rich logging heritage, a legacy that began with his great-grandfather, one of the early settlers who helped shape the Pacific Northwest's timber industry and established Atchison Lumber and Logging. This rich tradition was passed down through the generations, Chuck's deep and abiding love for this area and managing the forests of it was a life long passion. His love for the land ran deep, living in Toroda Creek was a perfect place to grow up, he spent much of his youth hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors with his brother Don. He grew up understanding the value of hard work and respect for the land, principles that would guide him throughout his life. Chuck excelled academically, graduating as the salutatorian of his high school class before continuing his education at Eastern Washington University. In 1970, he married Terri Henneman, on September 13th. Together, they built a life filled with love and family, welcoming their two daughters, Bevin Ariel and Anitra Diane, into the world. Chuck continued his great-grandfather's legacy, working tirelessly side by side with his father and brother Don to build and grow Atchison Lumber and Logging, ultimately running the company after Don moved to Whitefish, MT and Charlie Sr. retired he was proud to carry on the family business. His knowledge and dedication made him a respected figure in the logging community. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Martha, and his sister Roberta Maple and her husband Bill Maple. He is survived by his wife Terri (Henneman) Atchison, daughters Bevin (her husband Joe) Nelson, and Anitra Atchison & (John Fluckiger) and his grandchildren; Chance Alexander Watson, Aidan Riley Nelson, Sita Aniya Watson, Jace Joseph Nelson and Annalise Anya Cline, his brother Don and sister-in-law Pat Atchison of Palmer, Alaska; his sister Carlene and husband John Denison of Tonasket; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever remember his warmth, generosity, and dedication. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Barb Stotts, a cherished family friend and former classmate, who visited Chuck nearly every day during his hospitalization in Spokane, providing comfort and companionship in his final days. Chuck will be remembered for his deep connection to the land, his commitment to his family, and his dedication to continuing the legacy of Atchison Lumber and Logging. His life was one of service, hard work, and love, and his memory will live on in the forests and mountains he cherished, and in the hearts of all who knew him. Chuck will be remembered for his gentle spirit, hard work, and love for the land and family. His legacy will continue to live on through the generations, forever connected to the woods and hills he so dearly loved.
