Bill David
Ogilvie
July 10, 1925 – October 14, 2023
Bill Ogilvie was born July 10, 1925 in Outlook, Washington to Myrtle French and William Ogilvie. He passed away on October 14, 2023 in Tonasket, WA at age 98.
Bill grew up on a small farm in the Yakima Valley during the Great Depression. He remembered traveling LoLo Pass to Montana before it was paved and visiting Celilo Falls on the Columbia River before the Dalles dam was built. He graduated from Grainger High School in 1943.
After graduation he worked at Portland Meadows Racetrack for a short time where he aspired to become a jockey. Later he drove a produce truck between Washington and California.
Bill enlisted in the Army in 1950, attended Officer's Academy and served as Sergeant in the 2nd Division, 9th Infantry Regiment, Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
After the war, he attended Montana School of Mines in Butte, MT where he played college baseball and met Beverly Gale Palmer of Custer SD. They married on August 7, 1954, and moved to Pullman, WA where Bill attended Washington State College (now WSU). He earned degrees in teaching and Industrial Arts. This is where their children, Rodney and Carol, were born.
Bill moved his family to Tonasket in July of 1958 where he spent his career teaching until he retired in 1983. He then built his house and spent his golden years doing the things that he loved with family and friends including fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening.
His civic memberships include Tonasket Volunteer Fire Department, Tonasket Kiwanis, American Legion, The Tonasket Armed Forces Legacy Park, and the Okanogan County Fly Fishing Club.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Ogilvie of Tonasket, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Neva Seely and Nona Torkelson, his wife Beverly Gale, and his son Rodney Ogilvie.
No service is planned at this time.
Memorial donations may be made in Bill's name to the Okanogan County Ecology Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1864, Tonasket, WA 98855.
