Bertha Grace Wandler, 87, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2026. She was born on January 16, 1939 in Havillah, WA parents to Rollie and Pearl Shaver.
Bertha was known for her heart of gold, generous spirit, and deep love she had for her family and community. She married the love of her life, Herb Wandler, on December 4, 1955, and together they shared 70 years of marriage, building a life full of love, laughter, hard work, and dedication to others.
Bertha had a special talent for knitting and crocheting and spent countless hours making beautiful afghans that she generously donated to organizations, auctions, and volunteer causes throughout the community. Her sassy personality, quick wit, and sense of humor could make anyone laugh, and she left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She deeply loved the mountains and especially cherished her beloved Havillah, WA. She also had a great love for coffee, good conversation and time spent with family and friends. Bertha had a wonderful sense of style and was always fashion conscious, carrying herself with grace and confidence everywhere she went.
Throughout her life, Bertha devoted herself to serving her community. She began working with Okanogan County Civil Service in 1990, dedicating 35 years of service. She also served as secretary for Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce, coordinated the Tonasket Founders Day parade for many years, served on the advisory board for Tonasket EMS, worked as the treasurer for Hope Lutheran Church, was co-owner of Tonasket Ready Mix, volunteered with the Tonasket Police Department (Unit # 331), and was honored as Grand Marshal in 1997.
Above all else, Bertha’s greatest joy was her family. Her love, strength, generosity, and unforgettable spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by husband Herb Wandler, children; Teresa (Terri) Crane, Kenneth Wandler, & Pamela Hall, grandchildren; Kasha Carper, Serena Carper, Brent Hall, & Collin Hall, great-grandchildren; Everett Hall, Oakley Hall, & Maddox Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents Rollie & Pearl Shaver & sisters Constance Shaver & Leona Fitzthum.
A memorial will be held Saturday June 20, 2026 at 1:00PM at the Tonasket Hope Lutheran Church with Brian Bowes officiating. Luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tonasket Senior Center, PO Box 86, Tonasket, WA 98855.
