Bernice McNeese 93, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord February 13, 2017 at North Valley Extended Care in Tonasket. Bernice was born May 19, 1923 to parents Clarence and Tena (Richardson) Bright. She was delivered by her father on the homestead near Clayton, N.M. In her early years she lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, and moved to Washington when she was about 14. Her family settled near Duvall where she graduated from Cherry Valley High School in 1941. She married Floyd L. McNeese August 1, 1941 in Okanogan, Washington. They lived between the west coast and Okanogan, finally settling on Pogue Flat where they built and ran the Okanogan Valley Roller Bowl skating rink. In 1954, they moved to Happy Hill where they farmed wheat and alfalfa and raised the family and built a new home. They moved to Orient in 1972 where they owned a fruit orchard and raised strawberries. They moved to Wilson Creek to get to a warmer climate in 1985. In 1991 they moved back to Okanogan to be closer to family.
Mom loved to cook, sew and garden which she did a lot of while raising five children. Her real love was her family, her church and her friends. Her favorite pastime was talking with friends and telling stories of her childhood and other experiences. She was member of the Methodist Church for 60 years and a member of Scotch Creek and Okanogan Grange. Bernice sorted apples and worked in the school system at Wilson Creek and Orient. She also worked at the University of Washington for a short period of time.
She is survived by her children – Sharon McColm, Bothell, Mary Raab (Dick) Omak, Gayenell McNeese, Spanaway and Steve McNeese (Allison) Omak. She is also survived by Brothers Frank Bright, Renton and George Bright Duvall, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Floyd, son Dave and granddaughter Joelle Raab. Brothers Forest, Loyal, Maurice, Allen. Sisters Ella Donald and Nellie Davis.
There will be an internment service at 9:30 a.m. at the Okanogan Cemetery.
A memorial Service will be held June 17, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the Omak United Methodist Church with a potluck luncheon to follow. Memorials may be made to Omak United Methodist Church or North Valley Extended Care.
